IS:3043 stipulates various types of earthings as per requirement of system ( to interrupt fault current) and safety, like Conventional Salt Charcoal earthings, Pipe earthings, Mesh earthings, strip earthings etc. The Salt charcoal Plate earthings are most used earthings which require digging of a 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet hole minimum 10 feet deep hole in earth. Though Conventional earthings are most used earthings in earlier times, they have disadvantage of corrosion and unstable electrical performance. Conventional sizes in Copper are 600x600x3 mm and 300x300x3 mm. In GI, readily available sizes are 600x600x6 mm and 600x600x3mm.

To connect equipment from ground or earth, suitable size of earthing strips are used. For small size LT size equipment, 25×3 GI strip or copper strip may be sufficient, but to connect equipment with higher fault level, higher size GI or copper strip may be required.

Following are the conventional sizes readily available in stock, other sizes are supplied on order:

1. 32mmx6mm or 40mmx5mm GI / Copper Strip

2. 50mmx6mm GI / Copper Strip 

Earthing Material List for Plate Earthings

As per IS 3043 suggested, following is the earthing materials list required for Plate earthings:

1. Copper earthing Plate 600x600x3 or GI earthing Plate 600x600x6 mm

2. GI Pipe for watering 48 mm Or 40 mm Outer dia- B- Class

3. GI strip 50×6 mm or Copper Strip 32×6 mm – single run or double run till top ( approx 3 meter)

4. Interconnection strip 50×6 mm GI or 35×6 mm Copper , with 4 holes -10 mm for earthing strip connection and 6 mm holes for Clamp connection,  if 2 runs og GI/ Copper strip are brought to the top.

5. GI Clamp 40mm or 48 mm as per GI pipe size- 3 Nos

6. Funnel – as per GI Pipe. 

7. Earthing Salt – 2 bags of 25 kg each 

8. Earthing Charcoal – small size preferred- 40 kg bag- 1 Nos.
